New York — The social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, experienced a widespread technical outage on Monday morning. This disruption coincided with similar issues affecting other major digital services, including Reddit and Zoom, according to user reports and outage tracking websites.
Surge in User Complaints
Data from Downdetector, a site that monitors online service disruptions based on user-submitted reports, showed a dramatic increase in complaints related to X. The number of reported issues for X jumped from approximately 584 around 9:45 AM ET to over 27,000 by 10:00 AM ET, indicating a large-scale failure impacting a significant user base. Broader Digital Service Disruptions
The issues were not isolated to X. Downdetector also registered notable spikes in outage reports for Reddit, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and the investment app Robinhood during the same period. Reddit saw a peak of around 2,864 reports, while Zoom experienced over 3,200. This synchronization of outages has fueled speculation among users and observers about a potential common technical problem affecting shared infrastructure or cloud service providers.
As of the initial reporting, no official statements confirmed a unified cause for these simultaneous disruptions. The interconnected nature of modern digital services was starkly highlighted, demonstrating how a single technical fault or a series of coordinated issues can rapidly impact millions globally.
