Ford has officially launched its teaser campaign for a highly anticipated small electric pickup truck, confirming its market debut in 2027. This new vehicle represents a significant strategic bet for the American auto giant, especially as the company, like many others, has scaled back investments in electric vehicles due to slowing global demand.
Universal EV Platform and Compact Design
The upcoming truck will utilize Ford's new "Universal EV Platform," designed for flexibility and efficiency. Teaser footage shows the vehicle undergoing diverse tests at Ford's development centers, including winter driving assessments in Michigan. Chris Kirkland, a Ford vehicle software specialist, offered a clear glimpse of the truck's dimensions, indicating it will be noticeably smaller than the current Ranger, reminiscent of the classic Ranger from the 1990s. For what it's worth, it will feature a four-door configuration, making it suitable for family and daily use.

Competitive Pricing and Advanced Systems
Ford is targeting an aggressive starting price of approximately $30,000, aiming to make the electric pickup accessible. The company is heavily investing in the truck's electronic systems, including stability and traction control, alongside electric power steering, crucial for performance across various conditions. This strategic move signals Ford's commitment to capturing burgeoning market segments despite broader challenges in the EV sector, leveraging cost-effective and long-lasting lithium iron phosphate batteries.
