Rio de Janeiro, Brazil — Fluminense officially announced on Monday the return of veteran Brazilian defender Thiago Silva to the club on a contract running until December. The move comes after a brief period the 41-year-old spent with Portuguese side Porto.
Homecoming for a Club Icon
Silva, considered a prominent figure for the Rio de Janeiro-based club, began his football journey in Fluminense's youth academy at the age of 11. He had briefly left 'Flu' at the end of 2025 to join Porto, where he won the Portuguese league title and played 8 league matches. His return signifies a reunion with a key figure from the club's history.

Throughout his illustrious career, Silva has also represented renowned clubs such as AC Milan in Italy and Chelsea in England. He has participated in four World Cups with the Brazilian national team and won the 2019 Copa América. His initial return to Fluminense in 2024 was instrumental in securing the team's survival in the league, paving the way for a strong 2025 season where they finished fifth in the Brazilian league and reached the Club World Cup semi-finals.
