YouTube TV Launches Fully Customizable Multiview Feature on Television App

YouTube has officially launched the fully customizable "Multiview" feature within its YouTube TV application, marking a significant advancement in the online television viewing experience. This feature allows users to watch multiple live streams simultaneously on a split screen, a move that enhances viewing flexibility and addresses the growing demand for live content.

Full Control and Personalized Viewing

Following a limited experimental phase, the feature has expanded to include all channels, giving users complete control to select and display multiple live channels together, rather than being limited to pre-selected suggestions. YouTube introduces a new tool called "Multiview Builder," which enables the creation of a fully customized viewing experience, including combining content from various categories such as sports, news, shows, and movies, in addition to other live broadcasts. This tool provides suggested categories to simplify the selection process, based on viewing habits.

Feature Limitations and Device Compatibility

The Multiview feature does come with certain limitations; it exclusively supports live content and does not permit the inclusion of recorded or on-demand content within the multi-view display. Regarding device compatibility, Google indicated that the feature is rolling out to the majority of television devices, with a small percentage of older devices—less than 5%—potentially not supporting the full customization experience. However, users with these devices will still have access to a simplified version of the feature focused on major events like American league games or global championships. This initiative underscores Google's commitment to delivering a more personalized and flexible experience for its subscribers.
