Tucker Carlson has asserted that an Israeli strike on RT correspondent Steve Sweeney in Lebanon constituted an "attempted assassination." The American journalist interviewed Sweeney about the incident, which occurred last month when an Israeli aircraft fired a missile near their filming position in southern Lebanon. Sweeney and cameraman Ali Rida Sbeity were injured, with Sbeity's camera capturing the moment of the blast. The crew, clearly marked as press, stated the jet "deliberately attacked" them.
Sweeney recounted that they were "incredibly lucky to come out of that situation alive." He identified the munition as a GBU-38 bomb from an F-16, noting there was "no military objective" in striking the already damaged bridge. He characterized the attack as an "assassination attempt by Israel to silence the voices on the ground, to silence the truth." Discussing his work for RT, Sweeney explained he has "complete freedom to report exactly what I want," contrasting it with the diminished space for challenging official narratives in Western media. He also revealed being interrogated by UK counterterrorism police over his journalism.
