By early that evening, Chiefs pass rusher Chris Jones had taken to his X account to send Hill, his teammate with the Chiefs for six seasons, a message visible to anyone on the social media platform. He tagged Hill's account and used the alarm clock emoji, seemingly indicating it was time for the receiver to rejoin the Chiefs.

Jones wasn't the only one suggesting a reunion might be beneficial. Several analysts proposed that Hill, who is recovering from surgery to repair a dislocated left knee and torn ACL sustained in Week 4 last season, has the best chance to re-establish himself as a premier player in the league with the Chiefs. "Not only do they need him, he needs them," stated Louis Riddick, analyst and former NFL safety, on Wednesday during ESPN's "First Take."

Approaching his 32nd birthday in March, Hill, whose elite speed and playmaking ability have cemented him as one of the league's most dynamic offensive threats, remains a highly sought-after commodity. Within hours of being informed of his release by the Dolphins, Hill posted on Instagram, vowing to continue his career with the same high level of production that made him a star. "The Cheetah don't slow down. Ever," Hill wrote. "So to everyone wondering what's next... just wait on it. The Cheetah will be back...Born Again." His message conveyed unwavering determination.

Further fueling the reunion narrative, Hill was recently seen in Kansas City, visiting family and continuing his rehabilitation. His Snapchat profile picture, showing him in a Chiefs uniform, added a symbolic layer to his visit, igniting further fan speculation.

League sources suggest the Chiefs are closely monitoring Hill's recovery progress. Head Coach Andy Reid addressed the team's comprehensive approach to free agency on Friday: "We go through everything and everybody [in free agency]. That's how [general manager] Brett [Veach] does [it]. I'm sure [Hill's] working hard on that [rehab] part of it and trying to get all that straightened out. We talk about everything, so there's nothing happening there, but we know he's out there and cranking away trying to get himself back to where he can play." This indicates an open dialogue and continued interest.

A potential contract structure could mirror the Chiefs' past strategies. A one-year deal with incentives, similar to the one offered to JuJu Smith-Schuster in 2022 after Hill was traded to the Dolphins for five draft picks, could be a viable option. Such an agreement would allow Hill to prove his health and production, potentially leading to a more lucrative long-term contract elsewhere or with the Chiefs in the future, while the Chiefs secure a proven playmaker for the upcoming season. This arrangement also provides salary cap flexibility for both parties.

Should a deal materialize, Hill would reunite with quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who is also recovering from a significant knee injury (torn ACL and LCL). The reunion would also include Coach Reid and potentially tight end Travis Kelce, who is reportedly considering re-signing with the Chiefs for his 14th season. Hill's addition would significantly bolster an offense that has struggled to maintain explosiveness since his departure.

Enhancing the wide receiver corps is undoubtedly a top priority for General Manager Brett Veach and Coach Reid. The current roster features only five receivers: Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, Jalen Royals, Jason Brownlee, and Jimmy Holiday. Even a partially recovered Tyreek Hill could represent a substantial upgrade over the production the Chiefs received from the position for much of the 2025 campaign. Before his injury last season, Hill accounted for over half of the Dolphins' air yards (53.5%) and was a consistent deep threat, showcasing his continued elite ability.

Former Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu, speaking on his "In The Bayou" podcast, expressed confidence in Hill's ability to return to dominance, citing his work ethic. "With his work ethic, I'm not counting him out coming back and being just as dominant as he was before," Mathieu said. He emphasized the importance of finding the right offensive system: "The next best thing for him to do is to find a quarterback and an offensive coordinator that likes him, that appreciates his talents, his gifts."

Mathieu, who also departed Kansas City around the same time as Hill in 2022, acknowledged the widespread speculation. "I'm sure a lot of people are going to talk about K.C. ... I know a lot of people are going to throw his name in the hat as far as linking back up with Mahomes, which I don't count that out," he admitted. The Chiefs' offense has noticeably lacked the explosive spark it possessed with Hill, failing to produce a 1,000-yard receiver since his departure in 2021.

Mathieu believes Hill could be a catalyst for the current receiving corps. "Given the guys that they have on the roster now, he might be the person to sort of lift those guys' play," he stated. Highlighting Hill's professionalism, Mathieu added, "One of things that impressed me most with Tyreek was he was just like me. He [doesn't] miss practice, he's going to take all his reps, he [doesn't] miss no games." In a unit that has struggled with consistency, Hill's reliability and talent could make him the ideal mentor and playmaker the Chiefs need.
