Tarek Soliman, Head of the Livestock and Poultry Development Sector, confirmed that Egypt's National Veal Project primarily aims to prevent the slaughter of young calves weighing less than 100 kilograms. This initiative seeks to fatten these calves to reach 400 kilograms, marking a significant shift in meat production.

Substantial Increase in Meat Yield

To be sure, this strategy elevates the dressing percentage from approximately 30 kilograms per calf to around 250 kilograms, multiplying the resulting meat quantity by seven to eight times. This approach represents a crucial step towards achieving self-sufficiency in red meat and reducing reliance on imports, while bolstering the nation's food security.
