Russia and Ukraine have initiated a 32-hour ceasefire, commencing Saturday afternoon and extending through Sunday, to mark the Orthodox Easter holiday. The truce was ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin, following a proposal from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made over a week prior. The Kremlin announced the ceasefire would begin at 4:00 PM on Saturday and conclude at the end of Sunday.

Ukrainian officials confirmed their commitment to observing the ceasefire, emphasizing that they would respond "immediately" and "strictly in kind" should Russia violate the terms. President Zelensky articulated this stance, noting that the absence of Russian strikes would mean no Ukrainian response. The Ukrainian military has also stated its readiness to react promptly to any breaches by Russian forces. This temporary cessation of hostilities represents a brief pause in the ongoing conflict, offering a moment of respite during a significant religious observance.
