The General Authority of Meteorology has released detailed forecasts for the weather conditions expected on Monday, February 23, 2026, cautioning the public about a swift period of atmospheric instability that will impact most parts of the Republic. Meteorologists anticipate sharp fluctuations, including rainfall of varying intensity, active winds, and a significant drop in temperatures.

Expected Weather Conditions: Rain and Winds

According to the Authority's statement, the weather is expected to be cold to very cold in the early morning across most areas. It will then become mild in the north and warm in the south during daylight hours. As night falls, temperatures will plummet significantly, making conditions cold to very cold across most regions. These fluctuations coincide with a rapid state of atmospheric instability.

Rainfall Chances and Geographical Distribution

The chances of rainfall, varying in intensity, are increasing over northern Egypt, extending to Greater Cairo, the Nile Delta, and northern Upper Egypt. This precipitation could reach moderate levels and may occasionally be heavy over parts of the northern coasts and the Delta, with a possibility of thunderstorms at intermittent periods. Forecasts also indicate chances of light to moderate rain in the evening over parts of Greater Cairo, Canal cities, North and Central Sinai, and areas of Fayoum and Beni Suef. Here, the rain might intensify and become thundery at times, with an approximate 30% chance of occurrence in some specific areas.

Wind Activity and Its Impact

Weather phenomena will not be limited to rain alone; the country will experience noticeable wind activity across all regions. This wind activity will heighten the sensation of lower temperatures, especially in exposed areas. In some regions, particularly southern Egypt, the Red Sea governorate, and the Western Desert, these winds may stir up sand and dust. This could lead to a deterioration in horizontal visibility on some highways and desert roads. Therefore, drivers are advised to exercise extreme caution.

Expected Temperatures for Monday, February 23, 2026

The Meteorological Authority reported that temperatures would see a significant drop across most areas, with expected ranges as follows:

  • Northern Coasts: Temperatures will range between 16 and 17 degrees Celsius.
  • Greater Cairo and Nile Delta: Temperatures will range between 19 and 20 degrees Celsius.
  • Southern Egypt: Temperatures will range between 21 and 24 degrees Celsius.

The General Authority of Meteorology urges citizens to take all necessary precautions to cope with these weather fluctuations, such as wearing heavy winter clothing and avoiding high-speed driving, especially on roads where visibility may deteriorate due to dust or heavy rain. It also advises monitoring regular weather bulletins for any potential updates.

The Authority emphasizes the importance of public awareness regarding the risks of unstable weather. Citizens should stay away from utility poles and advertising billboards during periods of strong winds and ensure personal belongings exposed to the wind are secured. This warning comes as part of the Authority's efforts to ensure the safety of citizens and protect them from any potential harm resulting from the expected weather phenomena.
