Mourinho: Prestianni's Benfica Career 'Over' If Found Guilty of Abuse

Renowned Portuguese manager José Mourinho, currently at the helm of Benfica, has issued a definitive statement regarding the future of young player Gianluca Prestianni. Mourinho has asserted that the player's career with the club and under his tutelage will be terminated immediately should he be found guilty of racially abusing Real Madrid star Vinícius Júnior. This strong stance emerges amidst an ongoing investigation by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) into an incident that transpired during a Champions League encounter between the two clubs.

The investigation by European football's governing body was initiated following allegations made by Real Madrid's Brazilian forward, Vinícius Júnior. The player claims he was subjected to verbal abuse by Prestianni during the first leg of their Champions League tie in Lisbon last month. Prestianni, an Argentinian international, has vehemently denied these accusations.

However, in a press conference held on Sunday, prior to Benfica's league fixture on Monday, Mourinho reiterated his firm position. Addressing reporters, he stated: "I am completely, utterly opposed to any kind of discrimination or prejudice or ignorance or stupidity." The 63-year-old manager elaborated, "If my player did not respect these principles, which are mine and Benfica's as well, then that player's career with a coach named Jose Mourinho and at a club named Benfica will come to an end."

Mourinho further emphasized his understanding of legal principles and human rights: "I am not a scholar, but I am not ignorant either. The presumption of innocence is a human right, isn't it?" He stood by his earlier remarks, declaring: "I stand by my opinion. If the player is indeed guilty, I will never look at him the way I looked at him before, and with me, it's over."

The flashpoint occurred after Vinícius Júnior scored the sole goal of the first leg early in the second half at the Estadio da Luz. Reports indicate that Prestianni covered his mouth with his shirt at the moment he allegedly directed a comment towards the Brazilian player.
