Simultaneous Attacks Hit Vital Gulf Infrastructure

The second day of the fragile truce between Washington and Tehran witnessed a notable escalation in the region, as Kuwait announced its air defenses were engaging "hostile drones" that penetrated the country's airspace and targeted several vital installations. In a parallel and concerning development, Saudi Arabia revealed that its critical energy facilities had been subjected to multiple attacks, resulting in the death of one Saudi national and injuries to seven others, in addition to the disruption of key operational activities.

Significant Saudi Losses and Impact on Oil Production

The Saudi Ministry of Energy clarified that the targeted facilities included oil and gas production plants, transportation and refining lines, as well as petrochemical factories and electricity sectors in various regions, including Riyadh, the Eastern Province, and industrial Yanbu. This led to a tangible decrease in the Kingdom's production capacity by 600,000 barrels per day, with the "Manifa" production plant affected by a loss of 300,000 barrels daily, and the "Khurais" plant experiencing a similar reduction. The attacks also targeted a pumping station on the vital "East-West" pipeline, reducing the flow quantities through this main route for supplying global markets by approximately 700,000 barrels per day.

History of Attacks and Regional Escalation

These events follow the Saudi Ministry of Defense's announcement just one day prior of intercepting and destroying 9 drones on the first day of the truce. Reports indicate that Iran has targeted at least 6,385 missiles and drones, in addition to two fighter jet attacks, against 7 Arab countries, mostly Gulf nations, over the past 40 days. Despite Tehran's assertion of targeting "American bases and interests," these attacks have resulted in casualties and significant material damage to civilian and vital facilities.
