Hezbollah Claims 25 Operations Against Israel in 24 Hours Amid Escalating Border Tensions

The Lebanese-Palestinian occupied border has witnessed a significant military escalation over the past 24 hours, as Lebanese Hezbollah announced it carried out 25 intensive military operations against various Israeli targets. In detailed statements, Hezbollah clarified that these operations, which utilized guided missiles, drones, and artillery, were undertaken "in defense of Lebanon and its people" and in response to what it described as "Israeli enemy transgressions."

Details of Hezbollah's Announced Operations

The operations conducted by Hezbollah included sensitive targeting of Israeli military sites and vehicles, most notably:

  • Tank and Vehicle Engagements: A Merkava tank north of the Khiam detention center was directly hit by a guided missile. Another Merkava tank in the Taybeh project was targeted with a guided missile and was seen burning. Additionally, a D9 military bulldozer in the Taybeh project area was directly hit by a guided missile.
  • Military Bases and Sites: The attacks struck barracks and gatherings of Israeli soldiers at locations such as Avivim barracks, Khallat al-Mahafir, Ajl Heights, and Jibiya point. The targeting also extended to more distant military bases, including the Palmakhim Airbase south of Tel Aviv, hit by a "specialized missile" 140 km from the Lebanese border, the air defense system in Ma'alot Tarshiha, and the Rafael military industrial complex north of the Krayot region. The Meron surveillance and air operations management base was targeted twice with a swarm of kamikaze drones and rocket salvos.
  • Occupied Syrian Golan: Operations extended to sites in the occupied Syrian Golan, where the Katsavya logistics base, the Tsnobar logistics base, and Keila barracks were targeted with rocket salvos.
  • Israeli Settlements: As part of what Hezbollah described as a "warning," settlements in Nahariya, Avivim, and Kiryat Shmona were targeted with rocket salvos.

Hezbollah affirmed that these operations exclusively target military sites, in contrast to what it described as the "enemy's targeting of civilians." The group emphasized that this response is "the least necessary to deter it and prevent it from persisting in its dangerous objectives against Lebanon, its state, people, and resistance."

Context of Mutual Military Escalation

These operations come amidst a sharp escalation of tension and mutual shelling between Israel and Hezbollah. Recent hours have seen intense Israeli airstrikes on South Lebanon and the Beqaa region, resulting in a preliminary toll of 17 killed and 8 wounded. The Israeli army also issued evacuation warnings to residents of Beirut's southern suburbs, indicating the potential for an expanded scope of military operations.

Internationally, concerns are mounting over the widening conflict, with the U.S. President maintaining a cautious stance on questions regarding military intervention against Hezbollah. In an effort to protect its heritage, Lebanon has placed blue shields on 34 archaeological sites to safeguard them during the potential war.

This latest escalation reflects a new phase in the confrontation, where both sides appear to be exchanging qualitative blows in an attempt to establish new deterrence equations, with increasing international warnings about the repercussions of this escalation on the stability of the entire region.
