The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) has released its detailed weather forecast for Thursday, February 26, 2026, outlining a range of atmospheric conditions set to affect various parts of the country. The forecast highlights the presence of dense morning mist, varying chances of rainfall, and active winds across most regions. This announcement is crucial for residents and travelers to prepare for the day's weather challenges and ensure their safety.

Temperature Fluctuations and Key Weather Phenomena

According to the EMA's statement, Egypt is expected to experience cold to very cold weather during the early morning hours and at night. This necessitates wearing warm clothing, especially for those commuting early or spending time outdoors after sunset. Conversely, daytime temperatures are predicted to be mild to warm across most areas, offering a relatively pleasant interlude. This significant diurnal temperature variation is characteristic of this time of year and requires individuals to dress in layers to adapt to the changing conditions throughout the day.

Dense Mist: A Warning for Motorists

One of the most significant weather phenomena anticipated is dense water mist (fog), which the EMA expects to form between 4 AM and 9 AM. This mist will affect a broad expanse of regions, stretching from northern Egypt to Greater Cairo, the Canal cities, Northern Upper Egypt, and Central Sinai. Dense mist significantly reduces horizontal visibility, posing a considerable hazard to drivers. The EMA strongly advises motorists to exercise extreme caution, drive at very slow speeds, use fog lights, and adhere strictly to traffic regulations to ensure their safety and that of others on the road. Avoiding unnecessary travel during these hours is also recommended if possible.

Rainfall Outlook and Geographical Distribution

Beyond the morning mist, the EMA's forecast also includes chances of rainfall across several areas. Light rain, which may occasionally turn moderate, is expected in parts of the Northern Coasts, Central Sinai, and Northern Lower Egypt. There is also a possibility that these rains could intensify, reaching approximately a 20% chance of heavier downpours, particularly in parts of the Northeastern Coasts. These intermittent showers could lead to slippery road conditions and localized puddles in low-lying areas, requiring pedestrians and drivers to be vigilant.

Furthermore, light rain is also forecast for areas in Southern Lower Egypt and the Canal cities. These light showers might even extend to parts of Greater Cairo at intermittent periods throughout the day. While these rains are not expected to be heavy, they could contribute to a cooler atmosphere and necessitate carrying umbrellas or taking other precautions to avoid getting wet.

Active Winds Across the Country

The EMA has also indicated active winds across all regions at intermittent periods. These active winds can exacerbate the feeling of cold, especially during the night and early morning hours. In exposed areas, the winds might also stir up light sand and dust, which could pose a concern for individuals with respiratory conditions. It is advisable for such individuals to take necessary precautions, such as wearing masks, when outdoors.

Public Advisory and Safety Recommendations

In light of these fluctuating weather conditions, the Egyptian Meteorological Authority emphasizes the importance of continuously monitoring official weather bulletins. The EMA also recommends the following precautionary measures:

  • Wear heavy winter clothing, especially during early mornings and evenings.
  • Exercise extreme caution while driving on highways and open roads, particularly during the hours of dense mist.
  • Avoid standing near lighting poles, advertising billboards, and trees during strong winds.
  • Secure any loose items on rooftops or balconies that could be dislodged by winds.
  • Ensure children and the elderly are protected from direct exposure to cold air currents.

The EMA reiterates that these forecasts are advisory, and weather conditions can change. Therefore, continuous monitoring of official weather updates remains the best way to stay informed about the latest meteorological developments and ensure personal safety.
