Cairo - Ekhbary News Agency

The Cairo Criminal Court is set to convene tomorrow, Sunday, for the inaugural session of a high-profile trial involving a prominent businessman and an orphanage director, facing grave charges of human trafficking and child exploitation. The case, exclusively brought to light by the Public Prosecution's investigations, unveils shocking details of systematic abuse against orphaned children and the main defendant's alleged attempts to use modern technology to evade legal accountability.

Case Unfolds: From Sponsorship to Exploitation

The intricate threads of the case began to unravel following reports of suspicious practices within the "Ishraqa" orphanage. Investigations, spearheaded by Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmed Antar, revealed that the accused businessman, who claimed to be interested in donating to orphans, took four orphans from the institution to his private residence in New Cairo. According to the probe, the defendant provided them with educational expenses, mobile phones, and cars, allegedly as a means to lure and prepare the victims for exploitation.

The second defendant in the case is the director of the orphanage himself, accused of complicity and facilitating the children's exploitation. The first defendant admitted during prosecution interrogations that he requested the orphanage director to allow the victims to reside with him in his apartment, raising serious questions about the orphanage's role in protecting the children under its care.

AI and Attempts at Legal Evasion

In a striking development, investigations uncovered the defendant's alleged use of artificial intelligence to circumvent legal accountability. Following the arrest of the orphanage director, an examination of the businessman's phone revealed queries directed to AI regarding "how to escape legal accountability in writing an orphan sponsorship contract for individuals," as well as "how to get out of the case" and "responses to questions that legal authorities might ask him." These discoveries suggest premeditation and deliberate attempts to avoid punishment.

Orphanage's Dark Past: 2017 Child Torture Incident

This is not the first time the "Ishraqa" orphanage has been embroiled in child rights violations. In 2017, the orphanage witnessed a horrific child torture incident, which led to the arrest and imprisonment of the then-director and social worker on charges of child torture. At that time, the Ministry of Social Solidarity intervened and decided to change the orphanage's board of directors. This precedent casts a significant shadow over the oversight mechanisms for orphanages and the responsibility of officials in protecting children.

Alarmingly, investigations revealed that the accused businessman was aware of the torture incident that occurred at the same orphanage in 2015 (or 2017, depending on the context), having learned about it from the second defendant, the orphanage director. This indicates his prior knowledge of the orphanage's environment and its troubling history.

Shocking Confessions and Incriminating Evidence

During interrogations, the prosecution confronted the businessman with a video clip showing him sexually assaulting one of the orphaned residents. The defendant admitted to being the person in the video but claimed it was "just a joke," a defense rejected by the prosecution as a flimsy justification for a serious crime.

An examination of the defendant's phone also uncovered images of an individual taking nude self-portraits without revealing their face. The defendant confessed to communicating with people outside Egypt and stated that this individual was not among the current victims. Furthermore, it was revealed that the defendant had kept the victims' passports, which serves as evidence of restricting their freedom. The evidence did not stop there; a whip, identified as a torture instrument, was seized from his apartment, according to the prosecution's investigation report.

Victim Testimonies: Enticement and Blackmail

One of the victims, a student, provided a detailed testimony during the investigations. He stated that he met the defendant during a previous period (likely March 2023 or 2024, given the inconsistency of a 2025 date with the trial date), after the businessman's visit to resolve issues for the orphanage residents. The second defendant (the orphanage director) accompanied him to meet the businessman under the pretext of settling his educational expenses. Here, the first defendant enticed him by offering to cover all his school fees and proposing that he live with him in his New Cairo apartment.

The victim added that the defendant lured them with substantial money and gifts, then began to sexually assault them. When the victim attempted to refuse the inappropriate acts, the defendant blackmailed him, threatening to withdraw the financial support he provided for his education and daily expenses, a clear act of extortion exploiting the victim's needs and vulnerability.

Anticipation for the Trial Session

Legal circles and the public eagerly await the first trial session of the businessman and the orphanage director tomorrow, Sunday. The proceedings are expected to unveil further details surrounding this horrific case. This incident underscores the critical need to tighten oversight on orphanages and ensure adequate protection for the most vulnerable children in society.
