FC Khimki, a Russian football club that suspended operations and was declared bankrupt due to financial problems, is set to compete in the Second League B after merging with FC Kosmos from the town of Dolgoprudny. According to the Sport Baza Telegram channel, the owners of FC Khimki have acquired FC Kosmos, and licensing documents for participation in the Second League B have been submitted.
The preliminary name for the newly formed entity is 'Khimki-Kosmos,' signifying the union of the two clubs. Reports indicate that a core squad has already been assembled, and the team is scheduled to commence its training camp in Turkey within a week. Vladimir Bogdanavichus, formerly associated with FC Khimki-M from the Third League, will be appointed as the head coach. The team will be based at the 'Novi Khimki' stadium.

Furthermore, FC Khimki-Kosmos has plans to establish a reserve team that will compete in the Third League, playing against other teams from the Moscow region. This development follows FC Khimki's decision to halt its activities in June of the previous year. The club failed to secure a license for the 2025/26 Mir RPL season due to financial difficulties, and was officially declared bankrupt in September. The merger represents a strategic move to revive the club's presence in Russian football, albeit at a lower tier, and to navigate the challenging financial landscape facing many sports organizations.
The club's move to the Second League B, coupled with the formation of a reserve team, suggests a focus on rebuilding and long-term development. This restructuring aims to provide a platform for aspiring players and ensure continued engagement with the sport, despite the previous financial setbacks. Fans will be keenly watching the team's progress under its new structure and management.
