Kuwait - Ekhbary News Agency
Kuwait's football association elections, scheduled for May 20, are facing increasing complexity due to escalating disputes among clubs regarding the eligibility of the electoral committee. This division over how to address the issue threatens the integrity of the electoral process. While conflicting parties agree on a fundamental flaw concerning the current committee's qualifications, the core of the crisis lies not in diagnosing the problem but in finding a resolution. A unified legal interpretation, accepted by all clubs, is notably absent, leading to divergent views and opposing stances within the general assembly.
Six clubs, including Al-Tadamon, Al-Nasr, Al-Qadsia, Al-Arabi, Al-Fahaheel, and Al-Salmiya, are demanding a complete cancellation of election procedures, citing the principle that "what is built on falsehood is falsehood." They argue that any election completed under an unqualified committee may lack legitimacy. These clubs have officially called for the formation of a new electoral committee under direct FIFA supervision, with a new nomination period to ensure procedural integrity from the outset. Conversely, nine other clubs, such as Kuwait FC, Kazma, Al-Shabab, Al-Sahel, Al-Jahra, Al-Yarmouk, Al-Sulaibikhat, and Burgan, adopt a more flexible approach. They acknowledge the need to address the committee issue but believe that previously taken steps, particularly regarding nomination acceptance and deadlines, do not warrant a full annulment. This group seeks to balance rectifying the process with avoiding a complete reset.
