UAE Minister Warns Europe: Iran Cannot Be Allowed to Blackmail the Global Economy
Lana Al Nuaimi, the UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation, has delivered a stark warning to European Union governments, asserting that the stability of the Arabian Gulf region is inextricably linked to the vital economic and security interests of the European continent. In an exclusive interview with the news network Euronews, Al Nuaimi stressed that under no circumstances should Iran be permitted to use the global economy as a bargaining chip, referencing potential threats stemming from Tehran's regional conduct and its possible impact on international navigation and trade.
Linking Gulf Security to European Security
The Emirati minister elaborated that events in the Gulf region have repercussions extending far beyond its immediate neighbors, directly affecting crucial European interests. She stated, "We are talking about vital shipping lanes, trade flows, and the stability of global energy markets. Any disruption in this region has direct consequences for European economies and the national security of these countries."

She highlighted the UAE's continuous efforts to enhance maritime security and foster international cooperation to confront these challenges.
The UAE's Stance on Iran's Role
Regarding Iran's role in the region, Al Nuaimi affirmed that Tehran's policies are often a source of instability, and its attempts to leverage its economic resources or geographical position to pressure the international community are unacceptable. She remarked, "We cannot allow one country to hold the entire global economy hostage to its demands or irresponsible actions. This is not only against the interests of the region's countries but is also against the interests of the entire world."
The minister added that the UAE consistently advocates for dialogue and diplomatic solutions, but this does not equate to overlooking behaviors that threaten international peace and security. She emphasized the importance of unity and coordination among nations to counter these challenges.
A Call for European-UAE Cooperation
Al Nuaimi urged the European Union to strengthen cooperation with Gulf countries in security and economic fields, noting that such collaboration would yield mutual positive outcomes. She affirmed that the UAE is a reliable partner for Europe and is committed to working with its international partners to ensure a secure and stable future for all.
She stated, "We view Europe as a strategic partner, and we believe that enhancing our cooperation in areas such as maritime security, counter-terrorism, and promoting trade and investment can significantly contribute to achieving regional and global stability."
This statement comes at a time of heightened concerns over tensions in the Gulf region and their impact on global supply chains and energy prices, making the UAE's message to Europe critically important within the context of international efforts to maintain economic and security stability.
