The Turkish Ministry of Defense announced on Thursday that it has altered its military flight paths to Libya, adopting a new northern route that is shorter and more efficient. This adjustment comes as part of a comprehensive reassessment of military aviation routes.
Details of the New Route
A spokesperson for the Turkish Defense Ministry stated at a press conference that flight routes are planned considering several vital factors, including airspace usage rules, weather conditions, flight safety, suitable emergency landing airport locations, fuel efficiency, and the global situation. The spokesperson noted that the previous route, which passed south of the country, was used until 2023. However, since that year, following a thorough reassessment, the more advantageous northern route has been adopted, offering greater fuel efficiency and reduced flight time. This northern route is approximately 225 kilometers shorter than the southern path and continues to be used without any issues.
