Egypt — Ekhbary News Agency
The Economic Court in Cairo is scheduled to issue its ruling today, Monday, concerning festival singer Essam Sasa. Sasa faces accusations of appropriating the melody of the popular song "Ala Bali," originally performed by renowned artist Sherine Abdel Wahab, and utilizing it without obtaining prior authorization from the rightful copyright holders. This case has drawn attention within Egyptian artistic and legal circles.
Legal Proceedings and Allegations
The legal proceedings were initiated following an official complaint filed with the Public Prosecutor by lawyer Sameh Qenawy, acting on behalf of composer Wael Mohamed. The complaint explicitly accused Essam Sasa of using and commercially exploiting a melody owned by Qenawy's client without permission. This alleged infringement of intellectual property rights underscores the ongoing challenges faced by artists in protecting their creative works in the music industry.
