Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi announced a package of exceptional incentives for irregular workers registered with the Ministry of Labor, during the Labor Day celebration held at the National Egyptian Company for Railway Industries (NERIC) in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, East Port Said. These incentives include a monthly grant of 1500 Egyptian pounds for three months, starting from May until July 2026. Additionally, some categories of irregular workers will be exempted from fees for skill level certificates and professional practice licenses, aiming to integrate them into the formal sector and provide them with protection.

Enhancing Social Protection and Supporting the Labor Market

President Sisi also directed an increase in death compensation for work accidents from 200,000 EGP to 300,000 EGP, and raised the compensation value for total or partial disability proportional to the degree of disability. In a related context, he announced the launch of the "Labor Market Platform" to boost employment rates domestically and internationally, and to provide opportunities for youth skill development in line with market needs. Two permanent committees were formed: the first includes ministries of Labor, Industry, Investment, Foreign Trade, Planning, and Economic Development, to meet labor market demands; the second comprises ministries of Labor, Education, Technical Education, and Higher Education, to ensure alignment between educational and training outputs and market requirements.

Challenges of Job Creation and Unemployment Reduction

President Sisi highlighted efforts to create new job opportunities in agriculture and industry, affirming that Egypt's unemployment rate has decreased to 6.2%, despite regional and global circumstances. He clarified that both the private sector and the government are working to provide new job opportunities, whether regular or irregular. He also pointed out that 60 to 65% of the Egyptian population is under forty years old, which poses a significant challenge in providing employment and education for such a large number, emphasizing the importance of seriousness in general and vocational education to ensure the competence of workers locally and internationally.
