Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi announced ambitious plans to expand agricultural land in the Sinai Peninsula by adding 450,000 feddans. This initiative is part of the state's broader strategy to reclaim land and generate new employment opportunities. The announcement came during his participation in Labor Day celebrations held today at the National Egyptian Railway Industries Company (NEREC) headquarters in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, East Port Said.

Government Efforts to Create Jobs

In his speech, President El-Sisi highlighted ongoing efforts to create new jobs in the agriculture and industry sectors. He noted that Egypt's unemployment rate has decreased to 6.2%, despite regional and global challenges, affirming that both the private sector and government are collaborating to create both regular and irregular employment. He stressed that providing jobs and education for the over 60% of Egyptians under the age of forty represents a significant challenge, requiring concerted efforts and serious development in general and vocational education to ensure worker competency.

Agricultural Expansion and Development Projects

President El-Sisi further confirmed that the state is working to reclaim an additional 4.5 million feddans for Egypt's agricultural area, as part of major national projects such as the New Delta project and Mostakbal Watan projects. Regarding Sinai's development, he clarified that achieving the goal of adding 450,000 feddans in the peninsula necessitated the establishment of the Bahr El-Baqar station, in addition to developing other essential infrastructure to support these immense agricultural expansions.
