A man has received a prison sentence exceeding two years for the theft of a handbag from a London pub, an item containing a Faberge egg and watch with a combined value of at least $2.8 million. The incident highlights the audacity of opportunistic crime and the significant value that can be contained within seemingly ordinary personal belongings. The court emphasized the unusual nature of the case and the distress caused to the victim.

The defense noted the offender's homeless status and addiction, stating he had no knowledge of the bag's valuable contents and exchanged the items for drugs.
