A man has received a prison sentence exceeding two years for the theft of a handbag from a London pub, an item containing a Faberge egg and watch with a combined value of at least $2.8 million. The incident highlights the audacity of opportunistic crime and the significant value that can be contained within seemingly ordinary personal belongings. The court emphasized the unusual nature of the case and the distress caused to the victim.

The theft took place in November 2024 when Enzo Conticello, 29, stole the Givenchy handbag from outside the Dog and Duck pub in Soho. The bag held not only personal effects but also a rare green and gold, emerald-encrusted Faberge egg and a watch, both owned by the Craft Irish Whiskey Company where the victim was employed. These items were part of a limited series of bespoke "Emerald Isle" sets. Despite the significant value and the subsequent attempt by the perpetrator to use stolen bank cards, the Faberge egg and watch have not been recovered. The defense noted the offender's homeless status and addiction, stating he had no knowledge of the bag's valuable contents and exchanged the items for drugs.
