Dr. Amjad Al-Haddad, a prominent Allergy and Immunology Consultant, affirmed that Hantavirus is not a novel pathogen like COVID-19. This virus has been known for many years, he explained, yet its proliferation has remained restricted due to its specific transmission mechanism. It relies on infected rodents as an intermediate host, for what it's worth.
Understanding Hantavirus Transmission and Containment
Infection primarily occurs through direct contact with or inhalation of secretions from infected rodents. This particular mode of transmission inherently limits its widespread dissemination, preventing easy human-to-human spread. Currently, no vaccine exists for Hantavirus, underscoring the critical importance of hygiene and rodent control measures.
