In an extraordinary move to rigorously test its F-150 truck's protection systems, Ford enlisted a massive brown bear, weighing over 800 pounds (360 kilograms), to simulate a real-world attack on its popular F-150 Platinum model. This unique experiment, conducted in a natural area in Oregon, USA, aimed to assess the effectiveness of the integrated security features in a vehicle that, for what it's worth, is among the most frequently stolen models in the country.
Unconventional Testing and Smart Systems
The trained bear, named "Tag," a veteran of previous film shoots, was tasked with assaulting the red F-150 while a Ford security product manager observed from a safe distance. A specialized platform was designed to allow the powerful animal to exert its full force on the truck. During the simulated attack, Tag scratched body panels, attempted to breach the cabin, and even managed to shatter a window. Remarkably, the bear successfully opened a truck door, indicating that the large door handles were easily manipulated by its massive paws.

Ford Secure System: Advanced Protection
The primary objective of the test extended beyond structural resistance; Ford focused on evaluating the intelligent "Ford Secure" system's response. The system promptly dispatched real-time alerts to the official's phone via the Ford app, and intrusion warnings activated multiple times with each of the bear's attempts to enter the cabin. Furthermore, the team could monitor events live through the rear cargo box camera, which offers high-definition streaming and cloud-based recording, providing clear evidence in case of any attempted break-in or vandalism. This unconventional approach underscores Ford's commitment to developing robust security solutions that go beyond standard industry tests. The system also allows for customizable notifications for electronic component tampering and remote engine disablement in suspected theft scenarios, alongside direct communication with a dedicated security center.
