Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi participated today in the Labor Day celebration, held at the headquarters of the National Egyptian Company for Railway Industries (NERIC) in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, east Port Said. During the event, President Sisi issued several presidential directives aimed at improving the conditions of Egyptian workers, particularly irregular laborers, enhancing their social protection, developing youth skills, and regulating the labor market.

Support for Irregular Workers and Increased Compensation

The presidential directives included an exceptional grant for irregular workers registered with the Ministry of Labor, amounting to 1500 Egyptian pounds monthly for three months, starting from May until July 2026. The President also decided to exempt certain categories of irregular workers from fees for skill level certificates and professional practice licenses, intending to integrate them into the formal sector and provide them with necessary protection. Furthermore, the directives increased the death compensation in work accidents from 200,000 pounds to 300,000 pounds, with an equivalent increase in compensation for total or partial disability based on the degree of disability.

Developing the Labor Market and Skill Enhancement

In the context of labor market development, President Sisi directed the launch of a labor market platform to boost employment rates domestically and internationally, and to provide opportunities for youth skill development in line with evolving market needs. He also ordered the formation of two permanent committees: one comprising the Ministries of Labor, Industry, Investment, Foreign Trade, Planning, and Economic Development to address labor market requirements, and another involving the Ministries of Labor, Education, Technical Education, Higher Education, and Scientific Research to ensure alignment between educational and training outcomes and market demands. The President emphasized the need for him to receive periodic reports on the work of both committees.
