Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel declared on Thursday that his country will be prepared for a potential U.S. attack, coinciding with escalating rhetoric from President Trump. The announcement comes as Cuba grapples with a deepening crisis exacerbated by a U.S. energy blockade. Díaz-Canel stressed that while military aggression is not desired, the nation must be ready to confront such threats, drawing parallels to historical moments of defiance. He stated, "The moment is extremely challenging and calls upon us once again, as on April 16, 1961, to be ready to confront serious threats, including military aggression. We do not want it, but it is our duty to prepare to avoid it and, if it becomes inevitable, to defeat it." This declaration was made during a rally commemorating the 65th anniversary of a historic speech by Fidel Castro, a period marked by significant U.S.-Cuba tensions.

President Trump's administration has recently intensified its critical stance towards Cuba. Earlier this week, Trump suggested a potential focus on Cuba after concluding military operations in Iran. He has previously described the island as a "failing nation" and threatened intervention. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has echoed these sentiments, characterizing Cuba's government as ineffective and abusive. Díaz-Canel refuted these claims, asserting that Cuba is not a failed state but rather a "besieged state" facing "multidimensional aggression," including economic warfare and an intensified blockade. He maintained that Cuba, despite these challenges, will resist and ultimately prevail, attributing this resilience to socialism. While both nations have acknowledged diplomatic talks aimed at de-escalation, no specific details have been disclosed.
